Questions

Packing Tape questions

What is the difference between acrylic and hot melt packing tape?

Acrylic tape stays clear and resists yellowing, so it suits boxes kept in storage. It lists 45°F to 120°F. Hot melt sticks faster and costs less per yard, which suits fast, high-volume packing.

How thick should packing tape be?

For boxes under about 20 pounds, 1.6 to 2 mil is enough. Heavy or overstuffed cartons are better with 2.6 to 3.5 mil, which resists splitting at the seams.

What width packing tape fits a standard tape gun?

Most hand-held guns take 2 inch tape on a 3 inch core. Wide-box guns take 3 inch rolls. The Tape Logic rolls come in 2, 3, 4 and 6 inch widths.
